Guide to Life for Women: A Round-up of a Few of My Favorite Recipe Websites

Gratitude

Gratitude is powerful. Being thankful opens up opportunity within yourself.

When taking a few moments each day to count your blessings, you are essentially giving the world around you a big, fat thank you that is often overlooked. If you really examine your day and your life in general, there will be multiple things for which you can be truly thankful.

The quiet, thoughtful process of analyzing your gratitude scale negates and eases all the stressful emotions and feelings you may have been experiencing. It is during the slightly meditative process that you will gain insight into your thoughts allowing for a measure of peace to reside over you. This is best done just before bedtime...in the moments before drifting off to sleep. This, in turn, may affect not only the quality of your sleep but the overall quality of your life.

Show gratitude in your thoughts, say thank you to the universe, the world, the people around you...and reap the rewards of relaxation sans stress just before entering that amazing dream world. Wake up refreshed and anew, begin your day with anticipation of blessings and miracles untold, and be your best self.

Ode to the Husband...

The man of my dreams came along just under ten years ago and I can say that it has been a wonderful union that I never really thought possible before.

We have much in common and enjoy the same pleasures in life. We compliment each other's personalities...where one lacks the other fulfills. We both ground and uplift the other in all aspects of our lives.

Understanding and communication are key as is trust, forgiveness, respect, and admiration. I am proud to have my amazing husband in my life and admire the strength and passion which he exudes in all of life's pursuits.

He is my rock and my star. My "rockstar" if you will.

Daily Appreciation

Appreciation of/for life should be contemplated daily. Beyond material appreciation for all that you have, there is simple appreciation and gratitude for simply being. Of course the regular routes of appreciation are: Health, Family, Friends, Happiness, Love, and Material things like: Food/Shelter, the means to support yourself and family, and all the other material things you appreciate in your life. All are very wonderful and necessary things for life and living and they are great things to be appreciative and thankful for. But, I would like you to think a step further. Today I found myself being immensely grateful for my ability to appreciate the majesty of the desert mountains. Sometimes it seems that the immaculate beauty we see daily is the most overlooked. I'm sure wherever you are there must be some beauty in nature around you. Try to incorporate these types of things more often into your daily gratitude process. Also this morning I was working in the office and heard a great chirping going on outside...venturing out I found a wonderful song being sung by an entire orchestra of birds. How wonderful is that? Beauty of life is around us and surrounds our existence every single day. I, for one, am making it a priority to focus more on the appreciative aspects that reach far beyond my little world. I am appreciative and grateful for so many wondrous things in my life and I cannot begin to describe the feeling of love that exudes from me when I take a moment and reflect upon it all.

Healthy Living

Healthy living is not just about eating right and exercising. Healthy living is a state of mind. It is stress reduction, positive thought, optimism for the future, acceptance of the past, and being able to live in the present moment. (Mindful Existence)

It is being proud of who you are and the choices you make every day. Healthy living is the art of living well.

Living well has little to do with material things and a lot to do with what makes you happy, what invigorates you, and what propels you to be the best person you can be.

By adding the components of a healthy lifestyle: eating right, exercising, and mindful existence (as just described) one can achieve what I call "Living Well." Once this state of being becomes habit or second nature then we can move on to what I call "Living on Purpose."

Living on purpose is ascertaining what it is within you that you have to offer the world: your true desires, things that you do better than anyone else, a special talent that you have...something that, when you do it, you seem to lose all track of time.

Everyone has a unique gift/talent that they can hone into a career path. Just imagine...if you could do anything you want and make a living from it...what would that thing be? Living on purpose is just that. By making choices, decisions, and plans that encourage the implementation of your true calling in life, you are essentially living on purpose.

I say living on purpose verses living with purpose...because living with purpose is a state of mind...living on purpose is a state of action, evident by your choices of what you do and what you don't do.

Allow yourself some time to incorporate that calling into your daily life. Even just taking baby steps to transition yourself into that dream career is great...a little here, a little there...on the side...until, one day you realize you are just doing it! Go for it, even a hour or two a week to do what you love is a great place to start.
(If you are already doing what you love...kudos to you, baby!)

Once you allow yourself to:

(1) Live Well, by having a healthy lifestyle and a healthy state of mind.

(2) Live on Purpose, by choosing to follow a career path that enlivens/invigorates you, and focuses on your unique talents...

(3) THEN, you are able to move onto the final part of my motto or slogan: Live Your Dreams!

It is within the ability to be the best person you can be (mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually) that you are awarded the outcome of living your dreams. Seriously, think about the progression: Get a handle on the physical and mental parts of your being, follow a career path that is your "purpose" or true calling in life, and then you will find yourself "living your dreams."

So, when you occasionally see my slogan throughout my blog and at the bottom of posts...it is just to remind everyone (myself included) that once we decide to make ourselves a priority...the rewards of life are there for the taking.

So, let us all..."Live Well. Live on Purpose. Live Your Dreams."

Wine Pick #3

This is one of my favorite whites. It is clean and crisp...with a light, fruity and floral finish, not sweeet at all. It seems to be a go -to white for me. While it is still on the warm side here in Arizona I continually find myself enjoying whites. Which is strange. I usually prefer reds. However after being in the desert for just over a year I have come to appreciate the clean, cool whites. I highly recommend trying the Fume Blanc by Robert Mondavi. And, at just over $12 it is quite the steal. Enjoy.

Wine Pick #5

Penfolds Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz from Australia of course. This is one of my favorites from Penfolds. It is very much a classic wine that you will have again and again. It is bodied with cherry pipe tobacco, hints of vanilla, almost a touch of veal marsala if you will. I really like this wine. My husband prefers Bin 128 NOT to be confused with Bin 28. Bin 28 was first made in the sixties and they have perfected it over the years. I don't know maybe the process or maybe the grape or even the terrior...soils do change, I suppose. Whatever has happened...I like it now more than ever. I've been getting 2004 recently and it is fabulous! It is about $25 - $30 depending on where you shop. But I guarantee you'll adore it.

Wine Pick #6

Until very recently Bonterra's Zin was only sold in Europe. Now we have the opportunity to enjoy it here in the states. Mendocino County is known for its heritage Zinfandel Grape and only a few are organically produced. Bonterra does a great job with their commitment to organic and sustainable agricultural means. The Zin they produce is full bodied and complex yet not overpowering. It is slightly oaky, wonderfully spicy and full of dark black fruits. It will hold up well with hearty foods like meatloaf. It can be found for about $15.

Wine Pick #7

Santa Cristina Antinori is a Sangiovese with a harmonious blend of lingering fruity notes and just enough tannins to balance it out. There is a wonderful aroma that is more intense than the taste. Tuscany is known for Chianti Calssico which Santa Cristini Antinori was first introduced as, using the Chianti grape. After some changes in the governing laws requiring the yield to be lower for the Chianti Grape vineyards and thus also requiring the producers to age the Chianti longer...Antinori changed its designation in the late eighties to include ten percent merlot and thus the new Santa Cristina Antinori Tuscana Sangiovese was born. It is a very acceptable wine that does not overpower the palette. You can find a bottle ususally for around $10. Enjoy!
