My Little Baby is having trouble with his seizure control. It is breaking my heart. He has had Grand Mal Seizures since 2006 and the Phenobarbital Meds have worked for some time. However, the Pheno is not working well anymore, even after increasing it 300%. We tried Potassium Bromide and the side effects were too great. It is so sad and hard to deal with increased seizure activity...it has only been a week in between seizures. I want to make him all better. But, I have to say it is breaking my spirit. I have another appointment with the vet and am armed with a lot of research info on various meds to try. Wish me luck. We love our puppy so much...if anyone has any helpful information please share. :)

Surely,he will be okay.
Grand Mal seizures just flat outright suck.I know,I have them as well.
Mike I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this disorder. - Best of wishes to you.
I have an appointment with the puppy neurologist next week and I am hoping to have some success in determining another form of treatment for my puppy.
Hi,
Epilepsy has gone from an obscure mental illness, to a serious illness recognized by state foundations. This remarkable awareness, is because of the great work organizations, such as yourself, has done. We here, at Disease.com, fully support the cause your organization stands for and we are dedicated to aiding in your mission statement. Disease.com is a website which features disease and infection preventions/treatments. If you could, please list us as a resource or host our social book mark button, it would be much appreciated. Lets dedicate our time to the welfare of the 3 million individuals with epilepsy.

Hi,
both our dogs have epilepsy, although the younger one is now being slowly taken off pheno as she has been fit free for over 12 months.
Our older dog a 5 year old border collie has been having seizures for over 3 years. slowly the meds have increased to try to control them but he was still cluster fitting every 3 - 4 weeks.
Approx 12 months ago we started him on the Barf/gard diet (wheat and gluten free) and after a few months we had at least doubled the time between seizures to approx every 10 - 12 weeks although recently he just went 18 weeks siezure free.
One side effect of this diet is you will need to lower the potassium intake as the natural diet allows for better metabolism of the poattasium ( somthing to do with salt etc in bought dog food )and the amount of pottasium found in raw veg, else they will and up with a weak back end.

Thanks for the comments. I wish you well with your journey helping your dogs. I, too, started the wheat free-gluten free diet for the dogs many years ago. As a note this type of diet is also helpful with my Lab's allergies and skin issues.
Best Regards
